Momma

Momma, why did you cut your wrists and want to die.
Momma, what is with the pain in your voice and the tears you cry.
Momma, aren’t I a good enough reason to live?
Momma, if it is true then why do you pass me by?
Help her, she’s bleeding with a smile on her face.
Help her, whether or not you can save her is a race.
Help her, she is the only the only one I have.
Help her, if she’s gone my heart will no longer have a space.
Why, did you say those cruel things to us?
Why, over a man did you make such a fuss?
Why, did you call my brother those awful names?
Why, did you pace around the house and cuss?
Is it my fault? was I unable to make you smile?
Is it my fault? that you haven’t laughed in a while?
Is it my fault? that you feel you are unloved?
Is it my fault? or is this ordeal just a trial?
What now, do we pretend this was just a game?
What now, do we pretend this was a day just the same?
What now, do we forget it and walk away?
What now, are we supposed to live life in vain?
Save me! from these nasty thoughts that brew.
Save me! I only ever wanted to love you.
Save me! if you don’t who will?
Save me! I do not know what to do.
Momma, I really do care.
If only you noticed that I was there.

So I wrote this after my mother attempted suicide. She means a lot to me, but our family has a hard time communicating with each other and expressing what needs to be said. I wrote this as a way to let her know how I felt during that time.
