In Her Shadow

She shines bright like a star,

Next to her, my light is dimmed in the darkness of her shadow.

She is light like a Holy Angel,

I am just a drop of rain in her heaven.

She is loved and praised, like a Princess,

I am just the dog that trails behind, wide eyed.

She is a perfect work of art, never faulted, not one flaw;

I'm a blank page that on no one cared to draw.

She is my best friend,

But my worst enemy - my greatest competition.

She has a pretty flower's face,

I hide mine in embarrassment.

She wears a golden cloak of beauty;

I myself am wrapped in grey.

Her radiant hair sneers scornfully at mine,

Hanging hopelessly down my spine.

She excels, where I fail.

She succeeds, where I fall short.

She is idolised, while I'm ignored.

Standing next to her, bloody bored.

I try to reach her level,

Try to exceed her in just one thing -

Impossible.

Measuring myself against her is too tiring -

Why?

She will always win, will always be Top.

She will always be the Queen, and I the slave,

The poor little bastard no one can save.

She is Best. My best (friend)

The teacher's best (student)

The world's best (at everything.)

This kills me every day,

I seethe, I boil, I wish her dead.....

She knows not how I hate her,

She smiles at me,

Laughs obliviously.

Just a normal girl, my enemy friend.

She's beautiful, doesn't deserve my loathing.

Just a girl.....So why does she exceed me?....

Soooo effortlessly?
