Sticks And Stones
Sticks and stones
may break your bones
but words will never hurt,
is just something you say
to forget the pain.
The words cut deep
but no one ever sees
the worthlessness you feel inside.
The names and insults
the rumors and lies
they spread like wildfire
and burn your very soul.
You don’t see the light shining
at the end of the tunnel
you don’t feel the kindness
of those select few
sweet enough to care.
Your heart is cold
and your eyes are blind
to those who greet you
with open arms.
But once you choose to open your eyes
and feel the warmth on your heart
when you allow yourself
to let those caring people in
the pain begins to lessen
you feel loved again.
Those words
they stop cutting,
those stones stay still
and your bones begin to heal.
