O Captain, My Captain - A Rape Culture Adaptation
O Captain! My Captain! We’ll fight you to the end.
This body’s weathered every rack, her honor we’ll defend.
The screams reveal, the scars won’t heal, the people in turmoil
While sullen eyes and wav’ring soul, vessel torn from recoil.
But O heart! Heart! Heart!
These boys dare not do that!
She didn’t say no, she’s to blame, too!
…Their future will be ruined by you.
O Captain! My captain! Rise up and heart the bells;
Rise up – for you’ve incited a blaze! And now for you they come.
For you we blame these heinous crimes – toxic and heartbreaking
For you – victims and in’cent girls, their disturbed faces falling.
Here captain! Dear father!
This culture at your head!
It is my dream that on the deck,
You’ll fall soon – cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his awful ways are still
This man’s culture can harm no more – nevermore! – he never will.
The ship will anchor safe and sound, our voyage closed and done,
But only if, yes ONLY if, this culture is undone.
So exult O shores and scream from the hills!
While I with mournful tread,
For still the victim is being blamed.
And some now will her dead.
