Hamlet's Soliloquy Emulation
To see, or not to see; that is the question.
Whether ‘tis easier to blind ones self
To humanities capacity for evil
Or see the suffering in full light
And by seeing, help to end them: to dismiss; to settle
No more- and by closed eyes we say we end
The suffering and tragedy
That our societies are venerable to: ‘tis but an outcome
None should wish. To close eyes,
So theres a chance not to see; yes,
For that which we cannot see, will not prod our conscious
When we rest in our homes.
We must think; there's a perspective
That creates so many problems.
But who really wants to see?
See the starving children spattered in mud,
See the oppression, see the violence,
See the innocence stolen,
Manipulation to a single need,
And those that cause such suffering, quietly
Creeping from punishment? What people bear
The burden of sight?
The burden of empathy?
For those who travel into the countries of sight,
They cannot return. It puzzles the blind
And makes them wonder at sight
And think they should peer into the world.
And thus conscience does make cowards of us all.
Our resolution to see fades
As we think too much
And all that could have been
Fades into a land of lost possibilities
And we loose the will to see.
