He didn’t feel like a coach, he felt like a player going through the daily grind with me. The first thing he ever said to me was that were going to be spending a lot of time together. I didn’t really think that was true, but I soon realized that we were going to have a long ride to state.
Coach F was one of the most understanding people I have ever met. Most Coaches just yell at you when you do something wrong, but this coach would go over everything to help me understand what was going on like a real coach. I wasn’t the smartest guy, and he knew that. The plays didn’t read in my head as well, but being a good coach, he went over everything as many times as he could. He knew the stress I was going through with college recruits, school, and family, but he always came on my level. It’s like he always knew what was going on in my life that most people don’t understand. He also helped me off the field and in the weight room. He would be at every work out we had pushing us as far as we could. Even me not being on the team anymore and moving on to Southwest he still helps me push myself to become the best I can. When Coach F is on the field he really makes you feel that he loves what he does and will take any time to make are team better.
He made me feel like he trusted me on the field and knew I could pull through with my assignment, give it my all, and do what best is for are team. He also showed that to other players as well; he let the whole team know that if we gave it are all and did as he said he would give us his trust. He gave us confidence before every game just saying, “Just have fun”. No one really knew that we would win State, we just did as he said and have fun, “It will take care of its self”.
