Yellow Wallpaper
The paint and paper look as if a boys’ school had used it.
Stripped off—the paper—
The color is almost revolting;
Smoldering unclean yellow,
Strangely faded by the slow-turning sunlight.
Dull yet lurid orange sickly sulphur tint
Horrid wall-paper.
Moonlight on that undulating wall-paper.
A pattern like this,
A lack of sequence, that is constant
The outside pattern is florid arabesque, reminding one of fungus.
It changes as light changes.
The moon shines in all night when there is a moon
Wouldn't know it was the same paper.
At night, it becomes bars!
