The Sun
As I listen to the gentle footsteps of a child chasing her shadow. . . .
I recall the innocence of my youth:
Fragmented and quick, yet soft, soft, soft
Like the beating of my own heart in celebration
When the morning stars wink away the dreams of my slumber,
I wake to the dawning of a new, enlightened perspective
I see the pinks and purples of the sunrise peeking through the trees
The color of a newborn baby's skin, so soft, soft, soft
A new day has begun, another chance for endless possibilities
The miracle of a new life has been created in the bursting beams of daybreak
The sun rises with the calm of a child to be
And explodes with the breathing of new color into the world
While the sun creates dancers in the silhouettes of my vision,
So does my curiosity grow, so soft, soft, soft
I see the world and it reflects within me
I can now feel the warmth from the light of the sun's rays
Shimmering down on my existence like pure gold
Hope, joy, and wholesome happiness that I can mirror to the rest of the world
And the earth in turn can emit its light on my being
Touching my soul with its gentle heat, so soft, soft, soft
Cold, quick, and wet, is the rain
The patter of each drop on my window, as the child circles in confusion
The brilliant sun hides behind clouds of fear and doubt
Emerging to reveal the spectacular band of colors
To reassure the happiness and good in life
We so often neglect
The familiar purples and pinks paint the sky in the twilight of my life,
As I watch the sun disappear beneath the horizon
Mistakes are only colors that dissolve into the night
A white crescent appears
Smiling down on me and the rest of the world
Reflecting the radiant light and wisdom
In which the sun bathes us each day
As I lay my head on my pillow
And watch the moonlight stream through my window
I am reminded of the warmth of the sun
And appreciate the life I have been given
Just as the child grows and the sun dances to its refrain,
So do the people of the earth exist…
Never to be frozen by the hatred and ignorance of greed,
Never to grow weary by the challenges of the day
Never to ignore the song of the sun, so soft, soft, soft
