Firesong
A) Her hair sits on the pillow in curled, red waves.
B) The sound of her heartbeat, constant in your ears, humming.
C) You try to get up and she frowns, yearning for your love
D) Grabbing your hand and giggling as you fall
E) You kiss the mole on her cheek, staring into her half-open eyes of bright green.
F) The sun from the window pours through and outlines her body in a golden, holy light.
F) The clock hits eight and you turn on the light.
A) She begs you not to go, but you have your job, the mundane wave.
E) She pouts as she kisses you, but her eyes show understanding as you walk across the grassy green.
B) You start the car and look at her in the door frame, waving as the car starts to hum.
D) Yes, indeed you have fallen
C) But you are not in love.
C) Past the star crossed lovers,
F) Past the ones who met in church, bathed in celestial beams,
D) Past the couples who have fallen apart
A) Past the pairs who fall and rise like a wave,
B) Then, there’s you and her, among those stars you two have a unique vibration
E) Complicated, abnormal and with an envious shade of green
E) You two are a bizarre emerald
C) You are not in a mad, elaborate orchestra of love
B) But a soft acquaintanceship, an intimate little tune that quietly hums
F) You are not burdened with fiery passion; you are rewarded with friendship, a hopeful glowing light.
A) You and her do not swim through the wave
D) You ride above it, skimming across the surface of heartbreak and downfall
D) Tonight you shall come home, collapsing
E) Onto the bed as she’ll stand above you with a green stare
A) She shall smile and give you that cute little wave
C) Then crawl into bed with you, to sleep, not to make love.
F) Your lids will start to close as you turn out the light
B) And you shall fall asleep at the lull of her breathing, a comforting hum.
That night you dream that both of you are standing by a bonfire, the loving temptress
It lights your girl’s green eyes as it hums a seductive song
It dances and waves; full of sex and desire as you both smile and walk away
You will not be tempted by the firesong.

I do not want to say too much about my intent for this poem, for as soon as an author publishes their work, their intent is lost in the sea of thought.
However I will say this: Many people believe love is black and white, when in fact it is more like different shades of grey. I will also say that sometimes wanting to love is stronger than being in love.
Thank you for reading my poem! I hope you find it in the sea of thought
