Where were you?
Where were you when I first picked up those scissors?
Did you hear me crying?
You were in the room next to me.
Could you not hear the fighting?
How about the yelling?
You didn’t find out till years later.
You weren’t the reason this happened,
my ex-boyfriend was the cause.
Later found out this started years ago,
when dad would go on vacation with his boys.
Then I shut it out,
I don’t remember hitting myself,
hiding in my closet thinking he’s never coming home,
I don’t remember this at all.
Ex- boyfriend is what re-triggered everything,
I don’t remember what was going through my head,
I just picked up the scissors,
my pain was gone.
Now I look down,
all I can see are scars.
