Sometimes when I am told to forget,
you come to me

in my dream.
Your footsteps shatter
the loneliness that fills my heart with ache
each day.

At the end of the day--
no matter how hard I try to forget—
I am overwhelmed with an ache
that consumes me.
I sometimes wish that reality would just shatter
enough so that my dream

could come alive again. As the dream
takes over and scares away the grief from the day,
your presence arrives to shatter
the sorrow that I strived to forget.
You smile at me,
and I know that I no longer have to ache.

But alas, such a haunting ache
refuses to stay away for long; for the dream
is gone, and all that is left-- is me.
I still remember that day.
A man chose to forget
to watch the road. As the windshield began to shatter,

I looked away from your lifeless face and watched the shatter-
ing glass rain before my eyes. This burning ache
refuses to be extinguished. I forget
how to be happy and smile only in dream.
Each day
passes slower than the last. The only thing that saves me

is the thought that you might return to me
at night—where the illusion cannot shatter.
Maybe one day
this excruciating ache
will become the dream
and I will forget

which reality belongs to me . To forget
would be bliss, but I will have to shatter this hopeless dream.
Someday I’ll end this torture and ignore the heartache as I watch you disappear one last time.
