The Box
Driving to the relatives on Christmas day,
The sun has not risen and the sky is still gray.
We are stuck behind a car that is starting to slow down.
Wondering why I decide to look around.
There is a man on the sidewalk, no shoes on his feet.
Singing a song and keeping a beat.
A boy gets out of the car with a smile on his face,
And that is the picture my mind will never erase.
The boy walked up to the man carrying a nicely wrapped box,
I’ll never know what was in it, maybe a hat or some socks.
The man took the box and let out a sigh.
I was almost convinced that he was going to cry,
But he gave the wisest words to the little boy,
“No matter how hard life gets always have joy.”
I drove away with a giant smile.
I will never forget the difference you can make by going that extra mile
