Chasing Shadows

I'm chasing shadows.
Watching life through dirty windows.
I can't quite figure it out,
the pain, the love, the doubt.
Maybe I'm reading in between the lines.
Maybe the sun wasn't meant to shine.
There's something I can't see.
Something that hasn't yet been shown to me.
So I sit and listen to the rain fall
waiting for life to slow to a crawl.
I'm standing still
perched at my window sill
watching lightning flash
and hearing thunder crash
Not knowing what to do next
I close my eyes and take a breath.
