Nihil Sine Nefas

I’ll give words

A spirit and soul
Build them up, bone by bone
Sew closed their clothing’s holes
Craft them shining thrones
Teach them to talk from paper scrolls
Pretty them with dark kohl
Make them castles hewn of stone
While locked in place, let them stroll

I will

Give them voices with which to sing
Script them on a page
Cover with glistening rings
Let them grow wise and sage
Like jewels, I will string
Tell them stories on a page
Crown them, call them kings
Allow them to laugh and rage
Listen to their thoughts which spring

Let everyone hear their voices toll
They travel as if blown
Give them life, let them sting
Once thought, they’ll escape their paper cage.

I really want to have my writing be so much more than just ink on a page, and this poem coalesced out of what I want to be able to do.
