Why should the color of your skin
matter to me
or better yet
my family

Why should the way you look
interfere with the way I feel
why is this stopping us
from the love I think is real

You may be darker than me
but, I don’t really care
these kind of things
are not rare

I don’t think you understand
how much of a risk I am taking
to make you part of my life
will you leave my heart aching?

I believe that skin should not matter
and you do as well
I think we can make this work
because I have certainly fell

I hope to god you catch me
with your dark colored hands
and if you let me down
please lay me on soft lands
