I Am a Poet
I am a magician
Watch me bend words to my will
 And make
Stunning images appear with a flourish of
 My pen, while my
 Lovely assistant astounds with bright
 Illustrations.
 I am the voice
 Of the men, women, and
 Children in my mind. They
 Whisper
 In my ear,
 Scrambling for their turn,
 And sometimes it drives me
 Crazy
Trying to get it all down.
 I am the one
 Down the hall
 In the straightjacket.
 They tied me up
 Because they can’t hear.
Although they test and prod and coo,
 I smile
Because I know something they can’t.
 I am a poet.
