Teenager

June 21, 2008

The mirror twists and turns
before her,
portraying a false image.

She scowls as she walks away
from her own
reflection.

At school,
as the day winds on,
she avoids the snide comments,
denying most rumors
about her.

Secrets are kept
in her hands.
Threatening to be
spread.

Pressure
overwhelms her.
Be
the
best.
Choking her,
surrounding her like
an avalanche.

Jealousy
creeps upon her
more often than it should
monstrous and bloodthirsty,
blinding her.

Surrounded by friends
drinking in the limelight,
she feels a hunger for perfection
that can never be satisfied.

She bends her personality
like a contorionist,
a mood for
her teachers
her friends
the boys
her parents

Shes a teenager.
