The Cold Brown Room
Here in the darkness
 in the cold brown room,
 the floor is swept
 with a little straw broom.
By a girl in a dress
 her hair in a mess,
her bright blonde curls all a'frazzled.
 But through the window,
she can see the moon's glow
and the shiny white stars as they dazzle.

 Here in the darkness
 in the cold brown room
 a picture still hangs
of a bride and a groom.
 The bride is in bed
in the room that is red
and the groom is yet to come home.
 But the girl is awake,
 to dust, mop and bake
and wait for tomorrow to come.

 Here in the darkness
 in the cold brown room
 the floor is lit
 by the crescent moon.
 The girl is asleep,
 her dreams hers to keep.
 Of castles, sunshine and silver.
 Her father's still gone,
 but her dreams carry on,
as on to tomorrow they bring her.
