Growing Up
He wanted to be a rock
 with gold beneath
 But she wouldn't dig
 He was buried alive.

He wanted to give her a burning kiss
 in the afternoon sun
 But she only knew how
 to be cold.

He wanted to be a day to remember
A party in June, or a date in July
 But she forgot
 his name.

He wanted to be a drug
But she didn't want the high.

He wanted to be a knife
 But she wouldn't die.

 He decided to become
 a man
 and sometimes it was hard
 But she was never quite
 worth the time
 So he was ready
 to say good-bye.
