- What Matters
If only, if only, the sky was our brain,
Electrical impulses, lightning’s their name,
The storms are our frenzies, the rains are our tears,
Born from wisps of worries and thunderous fears.
If only, if only, the our arms were the trees,
We’d reach out and grab the day with total ease,
The branches are fingers, the roots are our toes,
Our leaves stand in goosebumps as frigid wind blows.
If only, if only, the earth was our skin,
Hot blood flowing under shows passion within,
Our hair changes colors with seasons anew,
Whilst our vibrant flesh parades various hues.
If only, if only, our body was this,
An unbroken figure of capable bliss,
But alas my friends, we’d be truly forlorn,
This untainted image is tarnished and torn.
If only, if only, our visions were true,
An unsullied droplet of just white and blue,
But you must be warned of this palate inferior,
True colors remain below simple exterior.
Although from a distance, this dream looks complete,
Be wary of cracks lurking there right beneath,
For these imperfections are of that foul kind,
That don’t reappear ‘till you can’t change your mind.
