Poem for a Foster Parent
Sometimes I know the words to say
Give thanks for all you've done
but then they fly up and away
A quickly as they come.
How could I possibly thank you enough
the one who makes me feel whole
the one to whom I should owe my life
the forming of a brand new soul.
The one who's there at nights
The one who helps me when I'm crying
The one who's continuously an expert
At picking up when I was lying.
The one who sees me off to school
and spent the days alone
yet magically produced a smile
As soon as I came home.
The one who always makes sacrifices
To always put us first
Who lets me test my broken wings
In spite of how its hurts.
What way is there to thank you
For your heart, your sweat, your tears
For the ten thousand things you've done
For oh-so many years.
For changing with me as I changed
for accepting all my flaws
for not loving cause you had to
but loving just because.
Thank you for the gifts you give
for everything you do
but thank you most of all
for making my dreams come true!!

Thank you for the things you've done for me.
Happiness walks slowly, with a cane.
Although inside I'm dancing to the moon,
nearby many obstacles remain.
Kind help like yours those thorny thickets prune.
You are my willing ear, the peaceful sea
on which I sail my thoughts, the quiet tune
underneath my laughter and my pain.
For all that you have given me,
I can return but love. For you
Bound up the wounds I did not see
and gave me hopes and passions new.
I can return but love for you,
Whose unmoved faith my heart did move,
And gave me hopes and passions new,
And loved me till I turned to love.
Whose unmoved faith did my heart move?
The mother of my heart, not blood,
who loved me till I turned to love.
And I became the soul I would.

The mother of my heart, not blood,
Bound up the wounds I did not see.
And I became the soul I would
for all that you have given me.
Thank you for the heart your loved one gave me.
How strange that it should beat within my chest!
All are one, and that is what has saved me,
nor does one truly die till all find rest.
Know that in your loved one's heart a purpose
yet drives the ancient inborn urge to be.
Our union is not merely on the surface,
Unraveling the words that make me, me.

Thank you for listening,
Hearing me out.
All my sad sorrow
Needed, no doubt,
Kindness and sharing.
Yours the love strong,
Open and caring,
Under my song.
Thank you for loving me,
having me in.
All you have given
now I hold within.
Kid in a vacuum
You made your own,
Or else I had been
Unborn and unknown.*
*Or, "Unloved and alone."
Thank you for loving us,
Having us in.
All you have given
now we hold within.
Kids out in limbo
you made your own,
Or else we might still be
Unloved and alone.
Thanking foster parents
A working foster parent always at the mercy
of those she has entrusted with their child.
Their heart berates her frequently but tersely
till once again she sees that fortunes smiled.
I'm blessed that I can trust you so completely
with the person who is closest to my heart.
You care for him not only well but sweetly,
Loving him as I when we're apart.
I cannot bear to think what I would do
If I could not be easy in my choice.
I thank the Lord each day that I have you,
And in that fortune silently rejoice.
Thank you for the care and love you give.
Without you I don't know how I would live.
Poem for a Foster Parent

There is no gift more precious than one's health.
Happiness must rest upon that ground.
Alight with pain, no pleasure can be found,
nor joy in love or beauty, words or wealth.
Know that I am grateful for your skill,
Your sensitivity and dedication.
Out of strength, I dreaded all sensation
until your healing touch restored my will.

Thanking foster parents
We thank you for all
the great things you do.
Large and small,
they all have meaning
to the families you help and to us.
One act
can make all the difference.
Like ripples in a pond ¬
kindness spreads outward,
reaching and touching others
and can change a life forever.
The smiling faces we see say it all…
Thank you…you are our stars!!!
