Gasping for breath, reaching for air,
Looking to the clouds and finding no sun.
Searching for truth and simple reason,
Seeking freedom when there is none.
I take that step, you pull me down,
My weary body broken, hopelessly alone.
With no one to help, I turn to you,
Knowing, but not caring, what you’ve done.

Hate fueled passion feeding my heart,
Burning addiction trapping my soul.
You hold me here in dark misery,
And yet I cannot let you go.
Take my hand, lead me down,
Pull me softly, take me whole,
Lost here, lonely, and I need you,
But you fill my bones, take your hold.

Follow your dreams, for mine are dead,
Dissolved with the life you flaunted.
You held me back, tore me down,
Took away everything I ever wanted.
Torn out, drawn out, stretched out,
Crying out at the jeers you taunted.
For I have nothing left, nothing more,
Only empty shadows, forgotten, unwanted.

I stumble, fall like a troubled child,
Praying for strength, for meek forgiveness.
I ask for help, for kindness, a sign of mercy,
Yet, I can’t see how I’ll ever get through this.
I hear your words, your whispers calling my soul,
Drawing me to the darkness, that empty abyss.
Down and down I fall again, your calloused smirk
Laughing, grinning, watching my pain with bliss.

This poem is about addiction. It was inspired off of a dance Mia Michaels choreographed on So You Think You Can Dance to Gravity by Sara Bareilles.

you have some great images... work on describing how it looks like when you are reaching, what do your hands look like? are they gnarled? or young sproultings beging for substenance?
