I am from gypsies and horse thieves,
Flowing hair and rushing winds
From the sprawling plains and the "big waters"

I am from beatings and blood
Tears and pain
Abandonment and sorrow

I am from the love of my family
The hate of our enemies

I am from the death of my ancestors
And the birth of my descendants

I am from relationships and heartbreak
From both truth and lies
I am a walking contradiction in which everything resides

I am from the elements
Fire, water, earth and wind

I am from the scorn of my brothers
The love of my mother
The leaving of my father

I am from need and want
Neglect and hunger

I am from the moon and stars
The rain and sun

I am from pride and shame

I am from my beautiful mother
And my ignorant father

I am from my hopes and dreams
And my problems and past
