Time Won't Change You
It’s a Sunday
And I scuffed my new red sneakers
Because I was too impatient to wait until Monday morn to wear them
 It’s a Monday
And I scraped my right knee
because I was too impatient to tie my shoes tightly before getting on the bus
 It’s a Tuesday
And I didn’t kiss Mama before I left for school
because I was too impatient and wanted to join my friends with gossip at the sidewalk
 It’s a Wednesday
And I came home without my innocence
Because I was too impatient to wait until marriage
 It’s a Thursday
And I stayed home due to an agonizing hangover
Because I was too impatient to wait until I was 21
 It’s a Friday
And Mama finally told me I was too impatient
And that I should slow things down a bit
Because soon enough I was going to fall overboard a ship that was too big to steer anyway
 It’s a Saturday
 And I lie here dead
Because I was too impatient to listen to Mama
And so I covered my ears and left
 No more days
 No more weeks
 No more months
 And no more years
