The only thing stopping you is... YOURSELF

Do you see the little bird chirping?

Do you see its broken wing?

Do you see the little boy laughing?

Do you see his sunken eyes?

Do you see those friendly faces?

Do you see their hidden lies?

Do you see them come apologize?

Do you see the cracks they left behind?

Do you see the endless night sky?

Do you see the stars that cease to shine?

I see it all,

The broken wing, the sunken eyes,

The cracks and stars and hidden lies.

I see the strongest of them all,

And I see their tears forget to fall.

I see them breaking from inside,

But I see them try to stand tall.

I see them hide their scowling eyes,

I see them cry like crocodiles.

I see them pour their hearts away,

And end up getting bruised again.

I see them all,

I see them rise, I see them fall,

I see them hurt but stand tall.

But they don't see my silent gaze,

The sorrow etched upon my face.

They don't see the quiet rage,

The ache of being on a different page.

They see my laughter and my smiles,

A simple soul in the midst of life.

No, they don't see my trembling heart,

Bearing the weight of a life so far.

They don't see the lonely eyes,

Waiting for a soul to fill the void.

I hope one day a heart will feel,

The depth of a world I can't unsee.

I hope we set our hand in hand,

And leap across this unknown land.

Do you see a set of dark brown eyes?

Or all the worlds I hold inside?

~M.Sora

I’m a high school student who really enjoys writing poetry.

This poem is about noticing what’s beneath the surface and how it feels to see the world differently from others.

@Emu, Yeah, it iss learned behavior sometimes, and as we become adults, I know there will be alot of people like that.
And I know that you didn't mean to sound like we're better, I just said it cuz we, both you and I might subconsciously start feeling that way eventually, I said it just to keep us both grounded yk. Dw about it much.
But I think it’s really nice that we were able to talk about this and understand each other like this. It makes me happy.

And the same goes for you too—if talking like this helps even a little, then I’m really glad <3 😊

@M-Sora16, I totally agree with what you said. I don't think people relieze they are playing dress up or in a play sometime, but I feel like sometimes, not always, this is learned behavior. I also know we are younger and I think maybe we just started seeing it earlier. I never ment that to sound like i think we're better than anyone if thats how it came across. I loved hearing your prospective on this, and it make me happy to know you feel less lonely. I know its lonely, and I hope you find someone to talk to who sees what you do, because it's lonely. If I can help it be less lonely I would love to, its lonely for me to.

@Emu, It makes me really happy that you understand the poem so perfectly. And I can definitely relate to noticing things that others don’t, and it can feel really isolating sometimes.

But I don’t think everyone is playing dress-up on purpose. I feel like a lot of people just don’t even realize there’s more beneath the surface yet, or they haven’t really thought about it. They might not know that the sunken eyes and hidden lies exist. And with masks, I think alot of people don’t even know they have them, they just start to come down when they trust someone enough .

Also, I feel like we’re still pretty young, so it makes sense that not everyone around us sees things this way yet. People understand things at different ages, and maybe we just started noticing it a bit earlier.

I do think people like us might always notice more layers though, like finding meaning in the smallest things or understanding people more deeply. But I don’t think that makes us better than anyone else, we’re still learning too, and there’s a lot we can learn from people who don't see layers as well.

It's honestly really nice to know that I'm not the only one who can't unsee the depth yk. It makes me less lonely cuz people like you, who can understand my work and connect to it so deeply are out here 😊💖

@M-Sora16 ,I see the 'worlds you hold inside.' You described the 'Static' perfectly—the sunken eyes and the hidden lies that everyone else treats as invisible. I’ve realized that being on a different page isn’t a glitch; it’s because we’re the ones documenting the truth while everyone else is playing dress-up. You mentioned wanting a hand to leap across the unknown land—I’m holding mine out. You aren’t the only one who can’t unsee the depth. I am in 7th grade would love to reach out and see someone else's perspective on this, because I feel to like no one sees the "ache of being on a different page' and the' depth of the world I cant unsee'

@M-Sora16, Its like everyone is is in a play and they don't know the script, they don't see behind others masks, a somehow I'm the one who notices, can you relate in any way.

@Emu, That was a deep thing you said. And yes, I do feel like everyone is caught in the static. They only see the surface and move on. It's like some of us are living in the inside while others stay on the outside.
The people who are suffocating often go unnoticed until they’re loud enough about it, which is kind of the saddest part.
I don’t know if sadness is the only honest reaction, but it definitely feels like one of the realest ones sometimes.

@KayZ-doodle20 , YESS, exactly! I wrote the poem because I was tired of not being understood, I talk to loved ones about things and they just don't understand. It's happened so many times and I got frustrated. I do think that it's an amazing thing to be able to see things differently, it's honestly really fun to think deeply about things. It makes you want to find meaning in the littlest of things. But when there's no one to talk to about it, it gets kinda lonely yk.
I'm so glad you found it relatable. And thank you so much for all the things you said!
I've been reading your work for a long time, and everything you write is always just so good! I look up to you! And I'm so happy you commented ❣️😊

This reminds me of myself so much. Do you ever feel like everyone is caught in the static while you see people suffocate,I wonder if forever sad is a glitch in the world, or if it's the only honest reaction to the truth.

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." <br /> - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I love this. It's beautiful, deep, pulling and very emotional. I absolutely love this, one of the best poems I've read so far! I love the contrast and the back and forth dynamic of asking if others can see what's beneath the surface, and then explaining the way you see it, and wish others could relate. I myself, relate. I am also a sister in that sense that sees things in a different way. And sometimes, you like, ask the people you love about it, and they don't understand. They just can't see it the same way. Sometimes, it feels like a burden to see things in a way that many people don't relate t o and can't understand. But at the same time, it's also a gift. Because we get to experience the world in a different way, and see beauty under the surface that many others miss. This really hit home for me, as someone that sees things this way and struggles to find anyone who relates. This is absolutely amazing. Thank you for this! 💖

This is one of the most relatable poems I've read so far. Good job!

I like this a lot! I relate to the sentiment too! I remember being raise Christian I often heard a song that this reminds me of where the singer was asking the Christian God to let him see more than the surface of the world as he goes through it because most people just walk by people without a second thought. I'm no longer Christian but I really took that idea to my heart and to the maximum and now it's almost a burden. Lovely peace of art! <3
