When Is It Going To End?

It’s been years now

years, of this brutal war

How much longer,

Do we have to wait?

The harsh actions to be put,

to an end

We just want a better future

for ourselves, our children, our country

That's all we ask

I can’t keep going on like this

Having to run

Needing to hide

In my own home,

I can’t even walk freely on

The sidewalk,

In my own neighborhood

Without the fear

Of getting injured,

or worse

No matter how many times,

they try to silence us

We won’t stay quiet

We will stand up for our country

They can’t make us leave

We will speak up

Make them listen

We shouldn’t have to flee,

We have a right

To stay in the country

That has been our home for so long.

Some days are more difficult than others

Can’t even make a sound, in your own home

Can’t even go to the store,

That is around the corner

To get bread, or vegetables

When they cruise around the streets,

It puts you at risk

Maybe they’ll pass by

Without noticing you

Maybe not

When is it going to end?

I am an 8th grade student. I had recently signed up for Creative Writing back in June of 2025, and had recently joined the 8th grade Creative Writing class back in late August of 2025. The poem is in the genre "Zeitgeist". I am a Burmese American, and I had dedicated this poem to my home country Burma, which is now known as Myanmar. I written this poem to spread awareness towards the civil war, and the current political situation.
