Fading Defiance
I've woken up a while ago.
My eyes are finally peeled after that sleep,
but everyone is still asleep.
I'm one of the few who are awake.
Feeling awake feels better now.
How come everyone is still asleep?
Why was that sleep oppressive?
Was it them—
the Shadow Puppeteers?
Are they the reason everyone is still unconscious?
They are; they barely leave a trace.
If I try to wake people up by having History yell at them,
I’ll get knocked out by them.
After all, they are the controlling factor of representation.
Why do the Shadow Puppeteers control representation
of those who want to represent?
Why can't representatives represent?
It's exhausting that the Shadow Puppeteers do this—it's tiresome.
There used to be a time when the Shadow Puppeteers
were not in control of representation,
a time of prosperity and legitimacy.
But the majority of us are still asleep,
and even the brave are getting knocked out
and falling asleep.
That is because,
after all, they are the controlling factor of representation.
I don't know what to do; their power is overbearing.
It might make me fall asleep again.
I don't want to fall asleep anymore.
I want everyone else to wake up
and stand against the Shadow Puppeteers,
because History stands against them.
But apathy and control are their greatest weapons—
History warned us, and apathy won.
After all, they are the controlling factor of representation.
It will take a while for everyone to wake up from this coma.
I need to take action, or we will enter another dark place
that is sleep-inducing.
If I get knocked out by them, someone else will take my place,
and they will do what needs to be done.
Because History once told us
we were once
"Free and Independent States."
History urges us to remember this.
Let's achieve an awakening once and for all.

Senior at ASRHS, graduating class of 2026. Doing this for a very cool AP Lit assignment and awesome teacher I currently have. I was inspired to write the political poem because I care very much about the future and state we are in. I want people to become more aware and less apathetic to our government and the influence others have on it. I don´t hate on any certain groups, even when they try to use it against you, for simply telling them to stop doing something that there not supposed to be doing in the first place.
