Tug of War
Back and forth tugging on a rope with only two players.
One wise and one juvenile.
Both teary-eyed, both stubborn.
This game seems new to us.
Your love pulls me and I slip with guilt.
As I tug away with young anger, the rope begins to crack.
I'm trying to pull away from you,
but your persistence is hard to beat.
Aren’t we supposed to be on the same team?
“Let go!” I say.
“I can't let you go,”you say.
We pull and they pull.
Neither wants to give in.
