Memory
You hold on to my arm as you laugh
It’s a brisk, but warm attack
In the second our arms connect
It all comes rushing back
The day we first met
Sitting together in class
I asked to borrow a pencil
And you liked my new bookbag
The day you met my mom
Who loved you right away
You would sleep over here
Almost every Saturday
The first time I cried in front of you
I felt so vulnerable and week
You held me in your arms
And wiped the tears that streaked
The day we fought about loyalty
The boy that got between us
The next two years would be a mess
All over a dumb little fuss
The day you texted me out of the blue
Asking to meet up and talk
It was like nothing ever happened
I guess we just needed to grow up
I realize now that these two years
Were the universe’s way
Of guaranteeing we matured and grew
And now, friends we will stay
