The Things We Say
"There's plenty of fish in the sea,"
everyone has heard that phrase when
it's decided that it wasn't meant to be.
"Spend a day in their shoes,"
another thing that's been said
when you seem to lose.
"I'll be with you through thick and thin,"
a wedding vow that seems
to give any bride or groom a grin.
"You got this! Break a leg,"
a helpful phrase to give when someone
thinks you might crack like an egg.
We say these things
but we don't always mean them.
We handle these circumstances as if they are
cotton that can drop and not a precious gem.
But who are we hurting if not ourselves?
Next time let's think before we speak to people like
they are replaceable items on shelves.

Hi! I'm Kylah and I'm a 15 year old from VA. I wrote this poem after providing a friend with some advice and realizing that some things get said often but aren't always meant. I thought it may be eye-opening for some to hear and realize for themselves.
