The Pawn Not Moved
Two pawns stood on a checkered chess board
And sorry I could not advance both
And be one player, long I pored
And thought for as much time I could afford
To where it ended with no growth
Then moved the other, as just as fair,
And being perhaps the better move,
Because it took space and gave a controlling air
Though as for that, chess books there
Had given them both the same approve
And both that day, were equally okay
As the opponent did not play black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how play leads to play
I doubted if I should ever go back
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere games and games hence
Two pawns stood on a chess board, and I–
I moved the pawn to the square less played by,
And that has made all the difference

This piece is a poem inspired by Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken". It reflects my personal love for chess.
