Your Darkest Hour
At times the solitude is not overwhelming.
You feel at home within your realm.
The light shines through, and you let the warmth hit your face.
Blanketed and held like a warm hug,
swaddled like a baby,
and there’s nothing but pure serenity.
An intangible intimacy links you together, and you begin to see part of yourself within the light.
You wish to ascend into it, hoping that you could discover the higher power.
Hoping to answer the question of life.
But just as you’re getting comfortable within your space the light descends,
falling far behind the horizon until it’s nothing but a small dot,
distancing itself from your space.
You chase the dot, hoping that you could reach it.
Fearing this feeling of serenity will end, you run and run yet you still can’t reach.
Warmth turns to darkness,
solitude turns to fear,
companionship turns to a deep envy.
The quietness pierces through the corners of your mind once you’re left with nothing,
nothing but the dark, dissipated world that you had created.
The blood boils within your veins, causing a fiery release of anxiety.
The weight of breathing becomes a burden as you slip into a coma of distress.
Why don’t you come back?
Why am I left in darkness?
What do you wish upon me?
You ask these questions and yet no answer comes in return.
Tears roll down the facade of your face,
hoping that they could cleanse you in some spiritual manner.
You watch your walls crumble down right before you,
yet there’s nothing you can do about it.
Just as everything seems to have been lost, the light returns and peers over the crest of the horizon like a small dimple in the sky.
The warmth of its entity heals your soul as you’re brought back to life, and the nightmares of yesterday seem to fade with the reunion.
Your reality becomes what you had hoped for as you reach a sense of stability.
And although once in your darkest hour,
you’re reminded that night doesn’t last forever.
