I, an Opossum
I, the opossum, rest easy by the road.
I’ve had my fill of food.
Walking and stepping sleepily
Across the road.
Past my former peers as they
Sleep infinitely, some keeping their
Young with them as they rest.
I cross timidly across the road,
Smelling the scents, looking
For my next feast,
The garbage from your trash can
And defending myself
From your dog and/or cat.
I could be a threat if you wanted.
Actually, your food is divine
Leave me alone and we’ll be just fine

This short persona poem is about my love for opossums. I have a very special place in my heart for these beautiful creatures.
