Set Aside
A thief's view, unfortunately mine. A conscious long set aside.
Two friends devised a plan to cash in, taking away more than intended.
Common sense tossed out with the receipts from grocery stores.
Door scanners didn’t pick up red-faced kids carrying irregular cargo.
June
They launched their venture.
Uncle's first summer cookout.
Nobody noticed two out of twenty-four beer cans go missing. “It’s too easy” they laughed,
Inadvertently upping the ante.
July
They knew what they were doing.
Uncle’s liquor cabinet.
Who would suspect the two kids for a missing bottle. “They wont even notice” they whispered.
The risk only made it better.
August
They went too far.
Grocery stores and gas stations.
Canvas bags full of gold, hanging low as they walked out. Silence as they bee-lined to the car,
Adrenaline fueling their minds.
April
The saga now provides a window to reflect on.
A thief's view, unfortunately mine. Bad choices long set aside.
Common sense kept safe in my brain, no longer controlled by adrenaline.
Only to this day; I still unconsciously check where the cameras are pointed in grocery stores.
