That Night
What I remember about that day
Is the crying of a child
And arguing of a stepfather
And the clapping thunder from the storm
And the tapping of rain on bedroom windows
And us, screaming
Running outside to the rain & to the dark
Yelling to the neighbor “Why me, Why”
Nothing about the jokes of friends
Nothing about the games that were played

This was an assignment for my Creative Writing class & it was based on Lucille Clifton's "The 1st" & was a poem about a memory I had & writing it down helped me overcome my feelings of anger & grief. This is similar to "The 1st" because the format is mostly the same & the words in bold are my strong verbs.
