Flickering Flame
Flickering Flame
Oh flickering flame,
How is it you burn so bright?
How is it you’re so small,
and yet can grow with such might.
Oh flickering flame,
How is it you dance across fields?
Always spreading your energy,
your warmth becoming my shield.
Oh flickering flame,
How is it that your wax candle stays ready?
Never broken or melted,
Always right there, strong and steady.
Oh flickering flame,
Do you ever grow tired?
Of that poker face you make,
the secrets that keep you a liar.
Oh flickering flame,
Are you alive in my soul?
Driving my writing passion,
like the heat to your coals.
Oh flickering flame,
Can I please come alive like you?
Instead of being trapped in this body,
like the soles to my shoe.
Oh flickering flame,
Do you promise to always burn bright?
Or are you going out soon,
leaving the darkness, prey to the night.
