Hours pass slowly as minutes collide,
His lips to her ear, "Darling, we can stop time,"
So her nails chased the chills running down his spine,
And there was nothing but the night...

Just two bodies fighting for air,
God held his breath at the beauty there,
And the stars, they couldn't help but stare,
But now she wishes she had walked the line,
Instead of casting her pearls to swine,
But hurting and healing are part of this life...

She listened as they lectured and preached,
And found no shoulder on which she could lean,
So she shed her tears where they could not see,
The girl grew up at sweet sixteen,

Just a heart broken beyond repair,
God shed a tear at the sadness there,
And the stars turned their eyes from her despair,
She wishes she'd have walked the line,
Instead of casting her pearls to swine,
But hurting and healing are part of this life.
