A Shadows Disappearance
The training wheels are off
Even with support by my side, I’m overthinking
Starting to pedal but I lose my balance
I begin to fall and aren't able to catch myself
Yet I look over and find a shadow hovering over me
Ready to help me back on the seat
Again, this time with a hand holding on
I begin to pedal
Tipping to the side but I’m caught
Being told advice on how to stay on track
providing an attitude of frustration in return
I don’t want to be a little girl anymore
I want to go off on my own, be independent
One more time I start to pedal
The hand holding my seat for balance
I get the hang of it and the hand lets go
Off I go in the distance
Growing farther away from the helping hand
I ring the bell, proud of my accomplishment
Hearing chants being drowned out behind me
Looking over I see the shadow
Yet it's my own
Stopping… Turning around…
I don’t see anyone anymore
Just me and the road
I start to pedal
Wishing I could have that connection of being a little girl again
