Flies free like a bird

Your message is heard

There's no need to rhyme

Sit back, take your time

People all love it

Rhymes can't coexist

My style has to change

No more rhyme-based cage

No need for pattern

No need for comfort

In favor of more

Easy poetry

Syllable count? Ha!

No more.

My lines can be however long

Or short

I want them to be

Look!

This poem can tell

Whatever message

I

Want

Simple, easy, to-the-point

Extra effort is erased

Who wants to make all

Of their poems rhyme

I suppose I do

It's a puzzle, true

But I like the work

Effort I won't shirk

So my style I will not change

Even if you call me strange

I still won't cater to you

I can write how I want to

The author's comments:

Among my friends, we all like to write poetry and share it with each other. Out of all of us, I tend to write the most traditional poetry - set rhyme schemes, constant rhythm, all that jazz. Some of them tend to like writing in free verse more, which I always found really interesting. They can write poems with varying rhythm, highlighting specific points and letting other lines fade away. But, after a while it felt like some free verse poems were less poetry and more tweets with line breaks. Because of that, I got a bit piqued: some of these poems weren't even trying! So, I decided to take that irritation and turn it into my own poem, half rhyming and half not: the best of free verse and the best of a more traditional style. The poem you see here is the result of those efforts.
