Ship in a Bottle
You hide from your past like a ship hides at sea
Burying it beneath the blackened sand
Anchoring it onto the rocky reef
That is, until you are the only thing that stands
Excuse after excuse
Lie after lie
It gets exhausting, doesn’t it?
Coming up with a new life, restarting every time
Your brain bounces around like a ship trapped in a bottle
Hitting the sides again and again
The damage is small but irreversible
Its never ending, day after day, enough to drive you insane
As time goes on your glass cracks and splits
Sanity slips and slides through your fingers, nothing but fluid water
It pools around you, your body and mind
Salt burns your eyes and now you’ve gone blind
That’s when you lose sight and begin to capsize
It's the anger and the hate
Regret and rage, it suffocates you
You’re drowning, reaching for a hand
Oh, but you can’t hide from the truth
The bottle seems to shrink, you reach for a helping hand
But it's not there, is it?
The glass bursts and begins to flood
Water fills your lungs as you try to call for someone, anyone
But it's too late, you misunderstand
Your whole life you rejected that helping hand
The bow dips down as the foremast begins to break
You’re alone, your own captain and first mate
The cork popped
The pressure was too much
It’s too overwhelming and you slipped up
The bottle shattered and everything flooded, cold to the touch
As you begin to sink
As the world begins to disappear
As it fades to black, you start to think
“How did I get here?”
Oh, my dear captain
You know damn well how this happened

I really like ships. That's why it is ship based, it was fun taking a topic that I am passionate about and writing a poem about it even if it was for class!
