My name, Giorgia, means earth-worker. As a child, I was a worm saver. Pouring rain. Muddy streets. Killing cars. Crying when a car ran one over, outside for hours on end. I would come home in with muddy jeans and wet hair

My name was given to me by two people married in Italy with exquisite taste. The name Giorgio Armani was an elite designer worn by my dad continuously, but more specifically at their wedding. My dad wore his tuxedo on the day he married my mom. If born a male, Georgio would be my name. Thank you double X chromosome.

On my mom's side, well the name isn't as common. born in Ohio, adopted as a baby, and moved to Wisconsin. my mom's side is very American, and if my mom had her way I would be named Ava.

But At school, my name has been the cause of being picked on. Pronunciation is a struggle for many. Gorgia, Georgia(g-or-g-ah) Georgiana, gorga. But I’m a fighter.

My name. peaches, ocean dusk, sand in the air, arc in the sunset. I have been told it means a strong fighter, a warrior, but I like being called the “absence of chaos, mixed with the scenery of a beautiful garden with an arc at sunset” in the words of all my friends. I find it funny because my name just reminds me of all the chaos in my life, like school and family and just the stress that comes with it all.

If I were to be named something else, it would have been Melania, which means beauty and strength in Italian. A family name that my Aunt’s mom gave her and was passed down to 5 generations.  The name is different,. It's a beautiful name but I don't think it would fit who I am.

The name. Giorgia. Filled with culture and family. I think my name fits me because i have become so strong and love the earth
