Revision (In Process)
So this story has to be lengthy, so I should write a lot. I should not have started this story with a so. I am going to make the sentence start with just “this”. Wait I missed a comma, I should add that in. Wait, this isn’t a story, it is a process, but if I change that then I will have to change the other one. I just missed another comma, I should add more commas, everywhere. This is becoming very informal, maybe that’s okay? [My teacher said that that sentence was a run-on, so I guess I should change the comma to a semicolon. I so rarely get to use semicolons correctly, so I am excited to include one here. Why did I use two thats in a row? Anyways, back to what I was typing earlier.] I went in with this being like a revision inspired piece, but it has become a revision process writing. Should I indent this? Because it is like a story, but at the same time I already said it's not a story. I missed the apostrophe. I don’t think this piece is making much sense. I should not have started that sentence with because. But also, I can write what I want because it is my own piece and it is also a first draft. What if this isn’t my first draft and this is actually how it is in its final form and you are reading this right now as if it is a polished final draft? I shouldn’t’ve repeated “final” twice in that sentence. I kind of like “shouldn’t’ve” as a word. It’s kind of funny. That probably won’t make the final draft.

This piece is inspired by the Revision pieces by Lydia Davis. Rather than revising a piece that I had already written, this piece is being edited as it is being written. This piece is more like a stream of consciousness. Instead of using a one-sentence structure, however, this piece is formatted like a normal story which helps maintain at least some semblance of a typical story. I chose to write this piece this way because I thought it was funny and because it allowed me to be looser with the structure, incorporating the satirical elements of Lydia Davis’ pieces. Much like how this story, for me, redefined what a story could be, the meaning is to be less uptight with what one writes and to include one’s voice in every piece of writing.
