The First One

As it's been a month,

Since I was broken up with,

I have done some healing and Iv confront,

Him heaven forbid,

I can’t help but remember our memories,

Every butterfly comes back,

And with that their accessories,

My thoughts at the time none I lack,

I also trigger them,

Cause I want that feeling again,

Him and I, I blame and condemn,

While I look back at ours texts,

Go back to spots we would go together,

Look at what I had that was his and is now mine, me it effects,

I see pictures and I would give anything to have that moment back forever,

To feel safe and cared for,

To be smiled at like that,

To have him lean in for a kiss and just explore,

To be held in anyway and just pore, my heart out to him,

To be loved,

Not judged,

When this relationship begun,

He was the first one,

The first one to hold my hand,

The first one to give me butterflies with just a look,

The first one who showed me i'm special he made me understand,

The first one whose lips touched mine and I was hooked,

The first night you talk on the phone,

You think it may be awkward,

But what was unknown,

Is you can’t seem to stop smiling even after the odd words,

You talk till you go to sleep,

Till you can’t anymore,

The next day you talk about how you know that time was priceless, not cheap,

The feeling inside, you can not ignore,

You proceed to talk everyday,

Get closer and closer,

Forgetting there was a time when you weren't together and you just display,

How much you like each other, I mean a life without the other, no sir,

When this relationship begun,

He was the first one,

The first one to meet me at night just to be in each others presence,

The first partner as an adolescent,

The first date,

The first star gaze,

The first song suggestion,

The first awkward question,

The first pursue,

The first I love you,

As you continue you know this may not last forever,

So you try to remember,

Everything,

And then you hear the words that you dread,

I don't think we're working out,

I think we need to break up,

The hurt you wish you could interrupt,

When this relationship begun,

He was the first one,

The first we’re not working out,

The first one who makes you cry for hours upon hours,

The first one who needs space from you who makes you want to shout,

The first one who makes seeing each other encounters,

And who all of a sudden goes from never hearing enough of your voice,

To one word answers by choice,

The first one who makes you question yourself,

The first one who gives you trust issues,

The first one who makes you wonder if it affected himself,

The first one who makes you go through ten boxes of tissues,

The first one you hope is happy yet hurting,

The first one who did the deserting,

When you miss them but know you could never return,

Because friends is all you'll ever be,

But from your mistakes you have to learn,

From the we who is now he and she,

When this relationship begun,

He was the first one,

The first one who made you feel complete and of something I was apart,

The first one who gave me a broken heart.

I wanted to submit this piece because I feel like most of us can relate when it comes to the first time we are broken up with by the first one we really care about. And it may be hard to remember but sometimes it's important to do.
