The Perfectly Imperfect
A stubby, little flower in the middle of a gazania patch
Gazanias tower over the mini flower, making it feel insignificant.
Without much sunlight, it still manages to flourish, reaching for the sun.
Knowing that there’s no chance to equal such beauty like a gazania,
The runt of the patch is still developing to learn its value.
As weeks pass by the petite flower, rooted to the soil
Watches the beautiful flowers get picked, one by one, to be given to loved ones,
Feeling even more miniscule. The immature flower wants to shrivel away
Until the perfectly unexpected moment occurs where a little one goes
“Hey brother! Look! I found the one to bring back to mom!”
The children carefully dig up the short flower, making sure not to damage its roots
And cautiously bring it back to their mom’s headstone to replant.
The flower that was just experiencing the most self-doubt now
Feels like it have the most meaning in the world,
Realizing its purpose is not to look and have the same reason as all of the other flowers,
But to be one that oddly sticks out, and to bring joy to others,
even if they don’t have much faith in themself.
