Black

My heart has turned black

Like the sky on a stormy day

Like the coal in naughty kids stockings

Like the heart of other kids with cruel parents

You know your words hurt too, right?

Just because you are screaming instead of hitting

Doesn’t mean you aren’t leaving a mark

A permanent impression on my life

That’s tearing me apart, word by word

My soul has grown dark

Like a raven soaring through the night

Like a chunk of obsidian torn from the earth

If only I had your love

Maybe things would be different

Instead, I take a blade to my thigh

To hide my pain from the world

To help me pretend things are all right

My mind has gone blank

Like the night sky without stars

I know you love me, I know you do

But it’s hard to see it when you damage me too

You ask why I’ve changed

Why I seem so dark

As if I don’t have a reason

To be falling apart

My heart has turned black

Like the sky on a stormy day

Like the coal in naughty kids stockings

Like the heart of other kids with cruel parents

But parents, I want you to know

After all that we’ve been through

No matter what, I still love you

I hope to reach others that share these same pains and help them realize they aren't alone.
