An Ode To Tea
I begin my journey alone in the ground
By myself, with no one around
Someday I’ll rise through the ground, graceful as a phoenix
One day a man approaches me at dawn
He bags me just as if I were his groceries
He brings me to a place without a familiar face
For now I’ll wait patiently on this shelf in the prison of my box
Waiting every day
Hoping someone will see my use
Yet they just keep passing by
One day they reach out
and give me a chance
Taking us home all together
I’m shelved once again
Though this time it doesn’t seem so bad
Now I see my friends plucked from our comfy little box
They turn their water black along with little specks of white
like a starry night sky
They become as sweet as ice cream
or as bitter as dark chocolate
I watch them morph and change to be their best,
Or their worst
Yet I stay the same as when I started
Plain as vanilla
Waiting for my time to shine
Yet my time never comes
Eventually, I’m by myself once more
My final comrade stolen from me
Forever alone in this cell
Unchanged
Forgotten by all
But as they say
C’est la vie
