Wrapped Around Me
You have watched me grow.
I wrapped myself in you while I was weeping.
Tender and loving, like the hands that held me when I took my first breath.
I clutch to you looking for reassurance and everlasting warmth,
like the blanket you gave me as a child.
How am I supposed to continue without my lifeś blood?
You have been my nurturer and protector.
When my eyes begin to well, you are there to wipe my cheek.
This comfort is like that of a very familiar blanket that I always carry.
For I might have worn you down.
You may have rips and possibly be pilling.
But your resilience will allow you to knit yourself back together.
And this I admire.
This is our last year together, how will I continue without you?
You have become my safe haven.
I keep thinking you will always be there.
I keep thinking I will always come home to you.
I want to take my blanket everywhere I go.
But, I am grown up now, I need to let go.
Loosen my tight grasp on you.
Figure my life out,
But you are so loving and warm.
Like the blanket I first got as a child.
