The Voices Unheard
How can we be told to use our voice when people choose not to listen?
The constant struggle to force people to hear our ideas,
and not just hear but ingest what spews from our mouths.
Belittled constantly without ever being given the chance to show our intellect.
Put into a box as no one tries to listen for our screams.
Battling daily to prove ourselves while the others are given the benefit of the doubt.
Scoundring, scraping, yanking at any chance thrown our way,
knowing full well they can decide to take it back in an instant.
But honestly who cares.
If we keep fighting,
Keep pushing,
Keep working,
Keep pursuing,
Keep dreaming,
Keep inspiring,
Keep pushing the movement forward,
One day, those little girls, too young to know the struggle,
will hopefully never even have to find out.

This piece sheds light on the inequality in our nation when it comes to the respect and chances women are given compared to men. I constantly feel like my ideas are not being heard or not taken as serious due to my gender. This poem identifies the struggle, but also provides hope for the coming generations that they might not have to go through the same thing as women do now.
