Memorial Day
I was in my garage celebrating
having a cookout with my family.
The white long table inside the garage,
hearing my mom and aunts chatting
about their kids.
My uncle and dad cooking on the grill,
enjoying the loud Hispanic music across the garage.
Feeling a tap on my shoulder,
My mom points towards my friend and her guest,
as they start walking over.
My eyes getting locked on the girl with the dark blue shirt,
and light jeans,
admiring her smile and glowing cheeks.
I sense myself looking away quickly,
but my eyes keep taking a glance again,
causing my face to turn red.
Hearing the fast pound in my chest,
hoping my face won’t blush again.
Instead I let out a bright smile,
hoping I get to see her again.
