This is Their Fault
I wish that
I had been taught
all these things I know
but also, those I know not.
but instead of simply
knowing things
I am forced to guestimate
and the teachers reign as kings.
they are hoarders, too –
saving knowledge in a vault –
someone ought to tell them
that this is their fault.
every single red X,
it’s not because I did not try –
it is because
they failed to teach Icarus to fly.
my wings, they are melting,
their handiwork now weak;
next time, mold my brain
so I stop before the peak.
never let me go so far –
I don’t like falling
or failing over and over
all the while, you are calling
“I’m so sorry!”
well, it’s not enough.
just pry a little more –
my skin is not that tough.
